WHAT DO WE DO? WHO DO WE SERVE? WHAT DO WE OFFER?
SAGENT supplies specialty injectable pharmaceuticals to the U.S. market. SAGENT’s target market is any U.S. hospital, critical care center, government facility, hospice or other customer which uses injectable pharmaceuticals. Injectable pharmaceuticals are any medications that are injected or infused, from oncology products to anti-infectives, cardiac care drugs and more. They are sold in vials, prefilled syringes and premix bags.
Founded in 2006, SAGENT Pharmaceuticals is a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures and markets injectable products to the U.S. market.

With a primary focus on generic injectable products, SAGENT offers its customers a broad range of pharmaceutical products across anti-infective, oncolytic and critical care indications in a variety of forms, including single- and multi-dose vials, prefilled ready-to-use syringes and premix bags.

Management

SAGENT is led by an executive management team that averages more than 25 years experience in the injectables business.  The leadership team’s track record has proven their success in developing and commercializing specialty injectable products.  For more information, click here.

Products

SAGENT currently has more than 200 products targeted for development, including approximately 100 Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) already filed with the FDA. Further, SAGENT is constantly identifying new products to add to its growing pipeline.

SAGENT’s extensive product offerings are the result of a worldwide network of partners that offer extensive and diverse capabilities in the areas of API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) sourcing, product development and finished product manufacturing. Among other advantages, compared to the traditional pharmaceutical strategy, SAGENT’s model provides reduced product development risk, a greater breadth of products, competitive cost, a lower expense ratio, reduced invested capital and superior growth opportunities.

Development

From 2007 to 2009, SAGENT’s first years in operation, the company submitted to the FDA, or acquired rights to, more than 100 ANDAs. Sagent’s submission rate in those years was approximately six times greater than that of its peers, submissions continue at a rate among the highest in the ANDA industry.

U.S. Generic and Specialty Injectable Landscape

Generic pharmaceuticals provide an attractive, lower cost alternative to brand name pharmaceuticals.  There are, however, many challenges facing generic and specialty injectable companies that limit the number of successful market players:
  • Sophisticated customers and complex U.S. market channels
  • Necessity for multiple, product specific, dedicated manufacturing lines/facilities
  • High cGMP (current good manufacturing practices) and regulatory standards for product development, approval, quality and safety
  • Difficulty in developing and sourcing complex APIs

SAGENT’s experienced management team and innovative business model enable the company to overcome these challenges:
  • SAGENT relies on an extensive international network of cGMP development and manufacturing capabilities that affords the following advantages:
    • Newer facilities – compared with an average age of 20+ years old for most domestic facilities – that:
      • Utilize the most recent, advanced technology
      • Are regularly inspected by SAGENT and the U.S. FDA for quality and safety
    • Unparalleled experience
    • Reliable, quality API supply
  • SAGENT’s seasoned, in-place U.S. sales and marketing organization has extensive experience in exceeding the needs of our customers
    • Field sales reps average over 25 years experience in their regions
    • National Accounts expertise with proven experience and expertise in successfully navigating the GPO (Group Purchasing Organization), clinical and wholesale distribution channel
    • Sales leadership has successfully led new, competitive entrants into the U.S. injectable markets four times
    • Focused on meeting the needs of customers through the breadth, depth and speed of our development capabilities

Injectable Market Opportunity

Fact: There are fewer competitors in generic injectables than in generic oral products.
Fact: Generic injectables typically yield higher margins than do generic oral products.
Fact: With more injectable products losing patent protection over the next few years, there will be additional generic injectable opportunities.

Limited competition, high-margin potential and the creation of potential pipeline products via future patent expiries are attractive qualities.
